2022 Land Rover Defender V8
There are multiple vehicle manufacturers that could claim “boxy is beautiful”. You can probably think of a few. Among them Land Rover may come to mind. The high-profile vehicles produced by the company are legendary in terms of strength and shear brutality, but they will rarely be described as sleek. They may be a bit more curvy in recent years, but they remain far from aerodynamic. Land Rover continues its iconic image with the introduction of its new 2022 Defender V8 models.
The 2022 Defender V8 90 two-door and 110 four-door models are a bit softer around the edges, but these vehicles are brutes when it comes to power and off-road capabilities. It starts with a supercharged 5.0 liter V8 engine that produces 518 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque. But it is not just the raw horsepower of the new Defenders that are gaining attention. It is how quick they can be. Land Rover says the 2022 Defender 90 and 110 can spring from zero to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds.
Power and acceleration, however, are the headlines. There’s more to the 2022 Defender V8 story.
One aspect is the price. The two-door Defender 90 has an MSRP that starts at $98,550, while adding two more doors will increase the price over $3,000 to $101,750.
If you are even thinking about this Land Rover, you are probably more concerned about its towing capacity (7,716 lbs.) than its top speed (149 mph) but there is also a roster of features and amenities that may catch your attention.
Land Rover has built a reputation for its almost completely customizable interiors and “Accessory Packs.” Driver and passengers will enjoy premium cabin lighting, three-zone climate control and cabin ionization. Drivers will appreciate nuances like a heated saddlecloth steering wheel and satin chrome gearshift paddles. Since there’s nothing wrong with a little bit of bragging, the interior and exterior both include special V8 branding.
Driver Assist features include 3D Surround Camera with ClearSight Ground View. Driver Condition Monitor, Wade Sensing, Emergency Braking, Traffic Sign Recognition and Adaptive Speed Limiter and a stolen vehicle locator. The long list of infotainment features includes a 10″ Touchscreen with Pivi Pro, an interactive driver display, and compatibility with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.
Now, is the 2022 Land Rover Defender V8 worth about twice the base price of the standard Defender 90 and 110? That is in the eye of the beholder. It may depend on whether you view this Land Rover as a vehicle intended for extreme off-road use or simply as an expensive driveway decoration. Either way, this is a world-class luxury vehicle Land Rover aficionados are sure to enjoy.
